Soli Deo Gloria’s 2026–2027 season invites audiences and singers across the San Francisco Bay Area into three distinctive musical worlds: the festive colors of the Baroque, a landmark American Mass, and one of the twentieth century’s most moving choral memorials.
December 4–5, 2026: An “Early” Christmas
Our season opens with Marc-Antoine Charpentier’s Messe de minuit pour Noël, a work that brings the warmth and familiarity of French Christmas melodies into the splendor of the Baroque Mass. Joyful music by Buxtehude, Handel, Praetorius, Sweelinck, and Victoria completes the program.
A professional chamber ensemble performing on period instruments will join the choir, bringing the distinctive colors and textures of this music to life. The two performances will take place Friday evening and Saturday afternoon in Alameda and Moraga.
March 6–7, 2027: Amy Beach’s Mass in E-flat major
In March, SDG celebrates Amy Beach, America’s first major female composer. Beach began writing her Mass in E-flat major at just nineteen. Its 1892 premiere immediately established her among the foremost American composers of her generation.
The Mass combines youthful confidence, expressive sweep, and substantial choral writing—a powerful opportunity to experience a major American work that deserves to be heard more often.
May 22–23, 2027: Hymn to Paradise
The season concludes with Herbert Howells’s Hymnus Paradisi. Written after the death of the composer’s nine-year-old son, Michael, the work moves from contemplation and grief toward consolation and radiance.
Howells draws on some of the most sumptuous choral writing of the early twentieth century, creating an experience that is intimate, expansive, and ultimately hopeful.

No prior knowledge of choral or sacred music is needed to attend an SDG concert. Come for the sound of live voices and instruments, the beauty of the repertoire, and the shared experience of hearing this music together.
Experienced choral singers who are curious about joining SDG are also welcome to learn about the choir. Our fall rehearsal cycle begins September 14 in Alameda.
